MY THOUGHTS:
I have been a fan of Brandilyn Collins’ sork for years, and I think her latest book, Exposure, blends a bit of style from several previous works. (notice I said style, not story lines!) There is the element of small-town, troubled family life similar to the Bradleyville novels. She uses a bit of the heightened mental awareness and paranoia from the Elisha books. And all of these things are tied together with heart-pounding fear, a nameless, faceless evil, and a desperate cry to God – albeit not a personal Savior – for help and deliverance – similar to the Kaner Lake books.
Exposure is a nice blend of everything Brandilyn does best – including twisting the end of the story in so many directions you find yourself rather gape-mouthed by the end of the book. And, as always, I never guessed the bad guy despite my list of suspects. However, I came closer this time than I ever have before! That’s progress!
I enjoyed Brandilyn’s exploration of fear and the paralyzing power it exercises in many lives – in many ways. The fear of illness and death, the fear of being alone, the fear of being watched and hunted – all of these touch our lives in one way or another and to varying degrees. Brandilyn ups the ante in her method of exploration and throws in a healthy dose of good old fashioned paranoia to create another title deserving of her identifying genre; seatbelt suspense! One can hardly go wrong with Brandilyn's books. Great mystery writer, and I also liked Color the Sidewalk for Me.
