It's Not About Him by Michelle Sutton - REVIEWED

It’s Not About Him is the second novel in Michelle Sutton’s Second Chances series. Like the first novel in the series, It’s Not About Me, this story deals with mature themes, and I would recommend it to older teens and adults. In this story we follow Susie’s story in the aftermath of becoming pregnant after being raped while she was drunk. Susie came to Christ early in her pregnancy, and chose life for her unborn baby. However, her boyfriend is offering her another choice, and she has another had decision to make. Will Susie be able to cling to God amid the chaos of her fledgling faith?

There was a time in my life when I could not truly conceive of the depravity that took place among a “party” crowd. College taught me about those realities, but by God’s grace alone, it never became my reality. Now I volunteer in a women’s rehab facility, and I see first-hand the devastation drugs and alcohol wreck upon young lives. I am forced to admit that young people today face fierce and horrid social situations. Michelle Sutton’s novel is not too far removed from reality, and it actually reflects a time from her own past.

Reading Michelle’s comments in the prologue and epilogue of this story was especially powerful to me, because it was only a few years ago that a cousin of mine gave her son up for adoption. Her choice was made because of the abusive nature of the relationship she was in, and it was heartbreaking to see. Michelle’s testimony is laced throughout her story and assures new believers that God alone sees us through these nightmarish choices and their results. Only God can redeem our sinful choices for our good and His glory. We all are sinners saved by grace, and we all struggle. I’m so glad Christ walks with us every step of the way! The Second Chances series is affirmation of this and they are set realistically amid today’s social challenges. It’s Not About Him…check it out!

Please see the author's comments on this post! Talk about a realistic writer! That speaks volumes to me!

Thanks for the heartfelt review, Kim. It's great that my story seemed so real that you thought it happened to me. I have only been pregnant twice and have both children alive today. But I've worked with adoption and situations like these so much that I understand their pain. :) I hope you will share this with the people you come across who might benefit.
