Wow! It’s amazing how an author can weave a fictional story around a truth and teach the reader to look at things in a brand new way. DiAnn Mills has done this in her novel Sworn to Protect. Mills takes the controversial issue of illegal boarder crossings, illegal immigrants, drug and human trafficking and a host of other issues and weaves them into a spell-binding story that causes you to take a new look at the human condition.

Danika Morales is a boarder patrol agent whose husband was murdered. Left alone to raise her deaf daughter, Danika’s life is in daily jeopardy as she tries to guard the boarder crossings against the evil that seems to flow in an unending stream – drugs, gangs, weapons, human flesh. Alex Price is a doctor who treats the wounded and war-torn people caught in the boarder’s cross-fire, and he must push through the pain of human depravity and show unbiased care in situations that he feels helpless to change. These two very different perspectives are brought to play off one another in a dynamic way as Danika and Alex are drawn into one another’s lives and forced to make sense of the chaos that exists at the United States boarder.

Add to this a rogue agent, a man whose daughter has been kidnapped, a family on the brink of destruction and illegal immigrants being blackmailed in order to stay stateside, and Sworn to Protect takes everything to a personal level. People will indeed do desperate things to protect and care for their families, and sometimes they make wrong choices. People like Danika and Alex are left to sort out the mess.

Sworn to Protect is a suspenseful, heart-rending tale that will cause you to examine your own heart. God is working in mighty ways even amid the chaos of human depravity.
