The Male Factor by Shaunti Feldhahn - reviewed!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Many talented women today risk undermining their careers without realizing it, simply because they don’t understand how they are perceived by their male colleagues and customers.
In What Men really Think, best-selling author Shaunti Feldhahn reveals the inner reality behind men’s views — the unspoken expectations that no man would dare to publicly acknowledge, and no woman would learn from an HR department. These revelations include:

• Men’s unwritten ‘rules’ of the workplace
• How men perceive workplace emotion
• What common situations with female colleagues most frustrate men-- and why
• Why revealing clothing can sabotage a woman’s effectiveness
• Why some men think flextime is fine, but equal compensation for it is not

What Men Really Think equips women with the information they need to make informed decisions and compete on a level playing field.

MY THOUGHTS:

“…most of the men on my survey shared a visceral fear that their working world might shortly come crashing down if they – and those around them – don’t focus all their energy on being productive all the time.” (p.124)

Shaunti Feldhahn desires to know how people behave in the workplace, and her in-depth research once again reveals truth that will be immensely helpful to women in the work place! The above mentioned fear alone explains a GREAT deal to me about the men I work for, and about the driving force behind my own husband’s work ethic! Shaunti’s exploration about the way men view work and how they are able to compartmentalize their emotions sits in stark contrast many times to the way women work and feel about their work and personal lives. To understand, even in part, how I am perceived by the men I work with gives me great insight about ways I can modify my own behavior to make my presence in their work environment more productive and valuable!

A lot of the knowledge in this book is pretty common-sense, but I was surprised at the way men are able to almost completely detach themselves from the emotional impact of the work around them. Their ability to focus and function is something I think they are God-designed to be, and as responsible leaders in my own place of business, I am very glad that is true! I received the expanded edition that includes faith-based insights regarding the research presented, and it will prove invaluable to me as I continue to provide administrative assistance to a large group of men.

The information provided in The Male Factor should be considered by all women in the work force whether they intend to scale to corporate heights or simply improve their performance within their current position. This is a fantastic research tool and provides enlightenment in many different areas of male/female interaction.

I also want to share a peek into an interview my friend Linda was able to secure with this wonderful author! Look HERE and enjoy!! She is also giving away a FREE COPY of this book, so check it out!!
