The Trouble with Chickens by Doreen Cronin - REVIEWED

About the Book: (from the publisher)
J.J. Tully is a former search-and-rescue dog who is trying to enjoy his retirement after years of performing daring missions saving lives. So he’s not terribly impressed when two chicks named Dirt and Sugar (who look like popcorn on legs), along with their chicken mom, show up demanding his help to track down their missing siblings. Driven by the promise of a cheeseburger, J.J. begins to track down clues. Is Vince the Funnel hiding something? Are there dark forces at work—or is J.J. not smelling the evidence that’s right in front of him?

Bestselling author Doreen Cronin uses her deadpan humor to pitch-perfect effect in her first novel for young readers. Heavily illustrated with black-and-white artwork from new talent Kevin Cornell, this new series is sure to be a favorite.

My Thoughts!

What a WONDERFUL introduction to the mystery genre for early readers! Oh folks, I loved this!! The words are succint and perfect for early readers, and the elements of a good mystery are all present and in full working order! The characters are quirky and spunky, and parents who sit down and read this with their children will enjoy quite a few chuckles along the way!

This is what I love about children's books! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it when I can spark interest in the written word! And those chickens....they will certainly set a good example for what an avid reader will do to get in the presence of a good story! :)

I recommend this HIGHLY if you have early readers in your home! It would be a tremendous edition to a school or classroom library as well!

I love children's books! I miss those days with my kids. I wish I knew how many hours we sat on the couch and read together, one on each side of me, not to mention the times I read to them individually.
