My Thoughts:
When the mega-rich of Manhattan swap places with a plain Amish girl, well, you have a seriously mixed up identity crisis! I’m telling my age when I say this, but Melody Carlson’s Double Take is the ultimate spin –off of the movie Freaky Friday. (yes, I was a young girl when the movie originally hit the big screen!) Carlson is such a versatile writer, that she makes readers take a “double take” at the ever popular Amish worldview as she juxtapositions two vastly different lifestyles!
The obvious problems posed by technology and basic creature comforts crop up immediately. However, the deeper issues of personal conduct, faith and relationship my surprise some readers. Double Take is a quick read, but the lessons that Madison and Anna take away from their life-swap experience are timeless and unchanging. Teens will find much to enjoy in Melody Carlson’s Double Take!
