The Radical Question by David Platt - REVIEWED

WHAT IS JESUS WORTH TO YOU?

It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily...

BUT WHO DO YOU KNOW WHO LIVES LIKE THAT? DO YOU?

In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus.

Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment --a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

MY THOUGHTS:

The Radical Question is a small, bright orange booklet you can hold in your hand, but the message is carries – no, the challenge it presents – is HUGE! In a brief 54-page booklet, the author asks the radical question: “What is Jesus Worth To You?”

Basically, David Platt is exploring Christianity in the context of American affluence, and he is pointing out, in a very poignant way, that we live in a day where personal comfort, successful career goals, and years of retirement pleasure have caused this nation to lose eternal focus. Rather than spreading the gospel at any cost, we are living as though this world is the only home we’ll know and neglecting those who need to hear the gospel or live with dire physical needs.

Platt challenges Christians everywhere to reconsider their personal relationship with Christ and re-evaluate what He means to you. Take an honest look at whether or not you are following, truly following Christ and what He means to you. This will make you think. It will make you take a new look at your life through the lens of eternity, and it will make you realize anew the urgency of a world in desperate need of the gospel message.
