An Eye For An Eye by Irene Hannon

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” (p. 244)

Mark Sanders and Emily Lawson have faced afflictions that are both devastating and heart-breaking. Mark’s job on the Hostage Rescue Team has left him reeling in the wake of an innocent teen’s death, while Emily has been widowed much too early in life. Emily has turned to God for her strength, and Mark has pushed God out of his life altogether. When these two meet after again after twenty years their reactions to one another are as frightening and confusing as the circumstances that throw them together.

An Eye for an Eye is the second installment in Irene Hannon’s Heroes of Quantico series. From the opening scenes to the final chapter the pages are filled with mounting suspense and heart-pounding action. Sometimes these emotions are caused by the action-filled plot, while at other times the romantic tension is the cause of elevated pulse rates. Irene Hannon definitely has a special talent for blending romance and suspense in a very satisfying way!

The spiritual message within this story is both timely and realistic. Twenty-first century lives are inundated daily with tragedy and terrorism – both present huge challenges to God’s children. As a psychiatrist, Emily’s life is filled with the heart breaking struggles of others, leaving her little time to process the chaos and danger that have turned her life upside down. As a member of one of the FBI’s most elite teams, Mark also has a front row seat to life’s horror and tragedy. Through their lives, Irene Hannon explores the many ways Christians cope with life’s unexpected heartaches as well as the many ways they often question God’s hand working amid the tragedy.

An Eye for an Eye is a suspenseful, satisfying read on both an emotional and spiritual level. If you aren’t familiar with Irene Hannon’s work, I urge you to read my review of the first book in this series, Against All Odds. It won’t be long until we enjoy In Harm’s Way – scheduled to release in the spring of 2010. I highly recommend Irene Harmon’s work for anyone who enjoys romantic suspense!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: (read my interview with Irene here!)
Irene Hannon is an award-winning author who took the publishing world by storm at the tender age of 10 with a sparkling piece of fiction that received national attention.

Okay…maybe that’s a slight exaggeration. But she was one of the honorees in a complete-the-story contest conducted by a national children’s magazine. And she likes to think of that as her “official” fiction-writing debut.

Since then, she has written more than 25 romance and romantic suspense novels that have sold more than 1.5 million copies. Her books have been honored with the coveted RITA award from Romance Writers of America (the “Oscar” of romantic fiction), the HOLT Medallion and a Reviewer’s Choice award from Romantic Times BOOKreviews magazine.

Irene, who holds a B.A. in psychology and an M.A. in journalism, juggled two careers for many years until she gave up her executive corporate communications position with a Fortune 500 company to write full. She is happy to say she has no regrets! As she points out, leaving behind the rush-hour commute, corporate politics and a relentless BlackBerry that never slept was no sacrifice.

In her spare time, Irene enjoys hamming it up in community musical theater productions. A trained vocalist, she has sung the leading role in numerous musicals, including “South Pacific,” “Brigadoon,” “Oklahoma” “The King and I” and “Anything Goes.” She also regularly performs with a six-person musical review troupe and is a cantor at her church (where she does NOT ham it up!).

When not otherwise occupied, Irene loves to cook and garden. She and her husband also enjoy traveling, Saturday mornings at their favorite coffee shop and spending time with family. They make their home in Missouri.
