Face of Betrayal by Lis Wiehl with April Henry

Cassidy, Allison and Nicole grew up together, and now as adults they serve their hometown of Portland as a television broadcaster, Federal Prosecutor and FBI agent respectively. When Katie Converse, a bright seventeen-year-old home for Christmas break after serving as a page in Washington D.C., disappears all three women find themselves drawn into the resulting chaos through different channels. Each woman brings her own unique skills into the intense search for Katie, and as time passes they provide each other with vital information and insight. Did Katie kill herself? Was she murdered? Will the public ever know why this bright young girl simply vanished?

I’m not going to give away a single detail of this fantastic story! The chapters are as brief and tight as the writing itself, and the story moves along at an almost frantic pace. The author leads her audience on an exhilarating search and rescue mission that eventually draws national recognition. Each of the main characters plays a vital role in the case, and they each must deal with their own personal drama – all cleverly reflected within the maelstrom of Katie’s disappearance. The story is brilliantly executed, and the reader will be shocked at the end of the story!

Heart-pounding mysteries are my absolute favorite types of stories, and Lisa Wiehl has certainly made a spectacular debut in this genre! Face of Betrayal is the first of the Triple Threat novels, and readers can look forward to Hand of Fate early in 2010. (note: there is some mild language throughout the story -multiple uses of the word hell as an expletive)
