About the Book: (from David C. Cook)
From Michael Landon Jr. and Cindy Kelley, authors of The Silent Gift and creators of the hit television film Love Comes Softly, comes an exciting historical romance set in post-Civil War, and filled with suspense and faith-building values.
At the war's end, a young woman suffers an accident that leaves her unconscious and alone. Waking with amnesia, she takes the name Mercy and wants more than anything to find out the truth of her past. But then a handsome stranger arrives, who may hold the key to everything she has forgotten. What he knows could devastate her future, and even end her life.
Written by two proven storytellers, Traces of Mercy is a perfect read for anyone who loves historical fiction, prairie-based tales, or just a good romance.
My Thoughts:
“The truth can be a terribly
painful thing to face – but God will wants us to face it,” she said. – Deirdre to
Rand.
Traces of Mercy captures the deep truth that no one stands on earth
without the shadow of a past lingering in their wake. But what if that past – no matter how good
or bad – has been erased from your mind, and only your enemy remembers – an enemy
that you can’t recognize. In the wake
of the Civil War everyone was trying to regain some type of normalcy, because
they had all lost so much. Mercy wakes
in a hospital recovering from wounds that reach into her mind and soul and
leave her empty. Left with the nuns of
the Little Sisters of Hope convent, she begins to learn of a faith that reaches
beyond both past and present and creates a clean and new heart.
It is into that heart Rand Prescott
walks into out of pure curiosity. He
finds reasons to stay in her company, because Mercy is unlike anyone he has
ever met. Mercy echoes his feelings, and
at one point, commits her heart to paper and writes in her journal, “I’m admitting
to you, my dear journal, is simply that I’m willing to live without my memory –
so I can live with Rand.”
But the truth – of everything
past and present – does come to light through a most unusual way, and the
results devastate many lives. The
journey Mercy must walk leads to both heartache and ultimately to true
freedom. You will not BELIEVE the twists
and turns in this novel!! This is not a neat and tidy romance, nor is it an
historical thriller. This novel touches
the deep and tender places of grace and – yes Mercy – in unbelievable ways and
leaves you precariously off-balance in preparation for the next novel in the
series!
Traces of Mercy if the first of
the Mercy Medallion Trilogy. (you will
love the touching story behind the Medallion!!) Your heart will be deeply
touched and profoundly changed as this story unfolds!! A MOST EXCELLENT READ!!!
