Deceptive Promises by Amber Miller - MY REVIEW

The American Revolution provides a powerful setting for Amber Stockton’s latest Heartsong release, Deceptive Promises. A very young and intelligent young lady, Margaret Scott becomes innocently involved in the life of Samuel Lowe. While his appearance is that of a British soldier, it doesn’t take long to determine that beneath the red coat beats the heart of a true Patriot. As a Christian, Lowe wrestles with his heart over the deception he is working within, and whether or not he should draw the lovely Margaret into his untruth.

As time passes and the colonies begin to declare their independence both from each other and from England, the battles become more deadly and the work of a spy and informer becomes trickier and bears greater consequence. However, as Margaret matures and her relationship with Samuel deepens, she must determine whether or not she too will take an active role in the deception that must be maintained in order to gain valuable information.

I have visited some of the locales that provide the setting of Amber Stockton’s latest novel. The era leading up to the American Revolution and the places where meetings were held to form our nation’s founding documents is captured clearly within the story, and take the reader into the heart of America’s birth. The relationship between Margaret and Samuel was very accurately portrayed for that time period, and their activities within the Colonial/British armies were also realistically explored. Deceptive Promises stirred my patriotism for America and made me thankful yet again to live in the greatest nation on earth. I was also left with a full heart – thankful to GOD for allowing our nation to prosper for so long.
