The Real Enemy by Kathy Herman - MY REVIEW

“Each of us is given a moment in time when what we do makes all the difference.”

(p. 367)

Choices. We make them every day in droves – often never considering the consequences. Often, we are simply reacting to our circumstances at the moment. Kurt Jessup made a bad choice that almost destroyed his family. His wife, Brill, has just accepted the position of Chief of Police in the small Tennessee town of Sophie Trace. She too has made a choice, and although it’s meant to preserve what’s left of her marriage, it proves to be an equally damaging choice.

What neither Kent nor Brill could possibly know is that their lives – as well as all those who call Sophie Trace home – are soon to be impacted by a terrifying series of kidnappings. People just seem to vanish without a trace. Panic turns to terror when the violence escalates and gang members gain a toe-hold in the town. Suddenly everyone must closely examine all of their choices. By the time you reach the end of the story, you find yourself praying that everyone makes the right choice and survives the danger!

Truly, Kathy Herman weaves an exquisite blend of suspense, human frailty and spiritual struggle to create a page-turning tale that will leave you completely satisfied! The Real Enemy is the first of the Sophie Trace trilogy, so you can expect to re-visit this Tennessee town and the Jessups again this Fall! I can’t wait!!
