Fatal Exchange by Lisa Harris - REVIEWED

About the Book:
Desperate times create desperate people. And desperate people are dangerous . . . Though Emily Hunt comes from a family of cops, the relatively quiet life of a high school teacher suits her just fine. She's saving up to buy a house, slowly moving forward after her brother's death, and settling into a life she loves. So the last person she wants to spend time with is Mason Taylor.

An undercover cop, Mason is enemy number one as far as her family is concerned. His involvement in the death of Emily's brother is still up in the air, and now he expects her to help him with a case. Mason has been working with one of her students, Rafael Cerda, whose brother has been kidnapped by a drug cartel. And with time running out to meet their demands, Rafael is getting desperate.

Emily will have to draw on all of her strength to handle what happens next . . .

Fatal Exchange
will draw you into a complex matrix of intertwining lives, unraveling secrets, and unexpected love.

My Thoughts:
Today’s not over.  We still have someone else to save.”  (p. 258)

Lisa Harris knows how to ramp up the suspense to an unbelievably intense level!! But Fatal Exchange takes that intensity to an almost unbearable level!  Good Grief!!  Talk about not being able to read fast enough!  Between Emily Hunt, Mason Taylor and Detective Avery North the reader doesn’t have time to breathe right!

This story rolls from one crisis to another on a seamless path to danger and a growing uncertainty about the resolution being anything remotely easy to live with.  What makes this even more intense is that the plot line is totally believable and could have been ripped from today’s headlines!  You don’t know from one page to the next who is even going to survive to the end of the novel!  I’m telling you now, this is a thrilling ride!

Lisa Harris adds a depth to her characters that causes the reader to be totally vested in the outcome for each one in the story.  In addition to the case that has exploded in their faces, Emily, Mason and Avery have a personal stake in all of the events that are swirling around them.  For Mason, there is an additional family matter that maintains pressure on his character – as though he needed any more pressure!   His new found faith in Christ is taken to new levels of belief and trust.

I can’t recommend Fatal Exchange highly enough!  This is an amazing book, and one that will keep you up night, reading at a frantic pace!
