The Runner by A. Wayne Gill - REVIEWED

About the Book:
The Runner is the first book in a seven-part series that follows the life of Michael Knight, a young man who is conflicted about his future and who embarks on a long journey of self-discovery. In that sense, Michael is like many of us. I don't think anyone ever just "arrives." We all have to go through things in life in order to learn and grow.

My Thoughts:

There is indeed a price to be paid when you choose to listen to the lies and lures of the world and turn a deaf ear to God’s direction in your life.  Michael Knight is the son of a powerful pastor, and everyone expects him to follow in his dad’s footsteps.  But Michael has dreams of his own.  Those dreams take him into some of the most influential and luxurious places in corporate America, and those same dreams also take him into a darkness he has only heard about in his lifetime.

His lifelong friend, Ramon Sanchez also longs after dreams offered him by a very influential man.  Believing that this offer will give him financial freedom and independence, he runs headlong into  a business that takes him away from any chance of freedom.

Neither of these young men recognize the fact that they are indeed trying to run away from the very thing they believe they are seeking.  Throughout their journey their lives intersect time and time again, and eventually they are brought to a moment of truth.  Their choices make an impact for all eternity.

This is a great start to an intriguing series.  The faith element is bold and personal, and does not shy away from the very real temptation to follow your heart instead of listening to God’s voice. This was a pretty quick read, and is does contain some language typically avoided in more polished manuscripts.  The truth contained within the story is indeed powerful and true.  I look forward to discovering what God has planned for the characters in this story!
