Love My Tender by Janice Hanna - REVIEWED

About the Book: (from the publisher)

As "Love Me Tender" play in the background, Debbie Carmichael determines to salvage her family’s restaurant, Sweet Sal’s Soda Shoppe, when her father’s health fails. Teen heartthrob Bobby Conrad, agrees to perform at a fundraiser concert. But just two weeks before the highly publicized event, Bobby backs out of the benefit. Enter...Johnny Hartman...a young, unknown singer to take Conrad’s place.

Debbie soon realizes the twists and turns leading up to the concert are divinely orchestrated. And it isn’t dreamy Bobby Conrad who has stolen her heart—but the tender love of Johnny Hartman.

My Thoughts:

Love Me Tender by Janice Hanna gave me a chance to experience something new. I got to experience what it felt like to be …ummm…historical! That’s right, I’m getting old enough…almost…to be considered in the “historical” category! And I don’t know but what this experience made reading the book that much more fun! Let me explain!

This sweet love story is set in the 50’s. I was born in the 60’s. So, the characters in the book made reference to shows like “I Love Lucy” and “Leave it To Beaver” and “Lassie” and I remember all of these from my childhood! I started watching television at the hospital when I was born! (snort! Giggle!) Anyway…I was thoroughly enjoying all of these references in the story, so when I got ready to search the publisher’s website for stuff I needed to blog about the book…well, I couldn’t find it! Why? Because it was listed under Historical Romance or something like that! The 50’s? Historical? Well, I never!

Anyway, personal angst aside, Love Me Tender is a sweet love story that many will enjoy. I fell in love with Janice and her stories when I read the Weddings by Bella series recently, and this story was just as enjoyable. Well, maybe more so, because I could “relate”. Ha! Ha! I had an old-fashioned raising! And well….I’m almost … “historical”! This make me…ummm…hysterical!! HA! HA! HA!

Fun book.

I have a historical story that's worse than this. Since you have boys, you're probably not into American Girl much. They have two lines of dolls, their historical ones (think Revolution, Civil War, Depression) and their modern "today" dolls.

My girl thought it was hilarious a couple of years ago when they introduced a new girl/doll into their historical line-up: Julie, a thirteen year old from 1974.

I didn't think it was that amusing!

Thank you so much for the sweet review! I'm glad you enjoyed the story! And hey, I was born in the '50s, so I cringe a little thinking of that era as "historical" too. :)

And i just thought it was pretty recent when they started including World War II as historical!!!! Maybe we're just getting older too fast! LOL. This book sounds like a definite must read.
