The Potluck Club Cookbook by Linda Evans Shepherd and Eva Marie Everson - REVIEWED

Church Potluck suppers are a staple of the worship experience here in the South. I grew up and remain Baptist, and it seems the Baptists have a reputation of eating together often and consuming large amounts of food! So, you can imagine my delight when I learned that the fiction series, entitled The Potluck Club, had its own cookbook! This was my first introduction to a series that has been around for a while, and when I reached the end of the book, lo and behold there were all the recipes featured in the novel! Well, I’m not sure, but I think the recipes in the cookbook are in addition to the recipes in the novels, so that means more great dishes to try!

As with any cookbook, this one is divided by category and includes everything from appetizers and breads to breakfast foods, cakes and casseroles. There is even a section of lite dishes for those who are counting their calories! A very thoughtful inclusion, don’t you think? All along the way, the reader/cook enjoys notes from the author contributing the recipe that gives you hints, histories and ideas of how the recipe can be used and where the inspiration for that particular dish was discovered. To me, it is not unlike the family cookbook that my extended family put together to pass down to the future generations of cooks on our family!

I’m headed to the grocery store today to purchase ingredients for some of these recipes. I am a huge fan of my crock pot, and there is a section of recipes dedicated to just that purpose! YAY!!! And even neater still, if you haven’t grown up in the south, and potlucks are foreign to your life, well, the authors even include ideas for potluck suppers that you can organize for your church or book club or any other group of friends that appreciate good cooking and sharing recipes!

In a nutshell, I’ve discovered a treasure trove of easy, affordable and cook-friendly recipes to add to my collection. And as much as I love to read, and now knowing the kinds of recipes I can find at the end of each novel, well, you can bet I’ll be collecting the novels too! The Potluck Club Cookbook…pick yours up today and enjoy the food and fellowship that only a potluck meal can provide!
