ABOUT THE BOOK

A wonderfully quirky, heart-breaking, heart-warming and thought-provoking story of a woman's dog who not only talks to her, he talks to God.

Recently widowed Mary Fassler buys a miniature schnauzer, Rufus, and her world is turned sideways in the midst of her grief. It seems that Rufus speaks. And not just to her. He also talks to God.

Mary has no choice except to believe Rufus, the miniature schnauzer, who claims to speak to the Divine.

The question is: Will Mary follow the dog's advice, and leave everything she knows and loves? Is this at the urging of God? Or is it something else?

Will Mary risk it all or ignore the urgings of her own heart?

My Thoughts:

It took a dog. Go figure.” (p. 309)

You know, the story of Rufus and Mary may seem a bit unusual at first, but after you get to know these two characters, you quickly realize that there is a “Rufus” in all of our lives at one point or another. Rufus is introduced into Mary’s life at a very tender, poignant point of growth and change, and ultimately serves as the avenue through which she returns to God. The journey is uncertain, funny, scary and even sad, but it is a journey the two take together – one day – one event – at a time.

I am so very, very thankful that God provides people (and animals if need be) at just the right moment in our lives to bring about His purpose and our growth in Him. I’m on such a journey in my own life right now, and I marvel daily at His tender mercies and gentle prodding – through friends, old and new.

This story draws you in and makes you consider life a little more carefully, yet it’s very enjoyable and reads quickly. If you like animals of any kind, you will fall in love with Rufus and all of the people his life affects for God’s glory. I am happy to recommend this book to you!
