My Thoughts:
In the second volume of the Katy Lambright series, Katy finds herself debating quite frequently. She has the competitive debate team occupying her time at school, but she has a far more serious debate going on within her heart and mind over the changes going on at home. Exposed to lifestyles far different from those in her Mennonite community, Katy decides to follow a friend's advice on a scheme to get her own way when things don't go as she wishes them to with her family. While Katy shows maturity as a student and is always a hard worker at any task she undertakes, her lack of wisdom and immaturity in handling relationships causes her trouble on many fronts. Katy has some hard and painful lessons to learn about honesty in her relationships, but will she learn them before her family has to pay the price?
Katy Lambright's experiences continue to show believable and important lessons that all teens must learn no matter their religious background. I enjoy Katie's stories, and I like the contrast between her viewpoint and those of her public shcool friends. She is learning a lot through her experiences, and I'm anxious to see what develops as Sawyer continues this series!
AND NOW...THE FIRST CHAPTER:
Definitely have to read some of Kim Vogel Sawyer's work. Love that this is a YA book. It's given me an idea -- creating a literature circle themed on religion for work. Thanks for the inspiration.
