A Woman Called Sage by Diann Mills - Reviewed

ABOUT THE BOOK: (from the publisher)
In A Woman Called Sage, a high-energy historical romance novel set in the late 1800s by award-winning author DiAnn Mills, Sage Morrow has lost everything she loved. Now, she is a Colorado bounty hunter determined to track down and bring killers to justice … and it’s personal. But when the tables are turned, will Sage become the one who is hunted?

MY THOUGHTS:
You made a big mistake, daughter. Lovin' a man despite his faults is a good thing, but you loved him without any sense." (p.67)

The love of a man brought Sage Morrow her greatest joy and her deepest sorrow. From the very first pages of the book it is evident that Sage is a woman of great passion and deep emotion. She is also bent upon avenging the death of her heart's deepest love. The journey this sets her upon is one filled with many twists and turns, and she faces death more than once along the way. When she winds up in Rocky Falls dealing with Marshall Parker Timmons as she tries to capture one of the McCaw gang things truly take a very dramatic turn - spiritually, emotionally and physically. The Lord has set Sage Morrow upon the path to become the woman she was meant to be - but she has a loooong way to go to get there!

At first I was a bit skeptical about this story. Sage seemed a bit of a charicature with her Indian heritage, her ability to communicate with the animals, her stealth and ability with guns and knives....just a bit Gizzley Adams. However, it wasn't many chapters into the story until I was drawn to her character and strength as well as Marshall Parker's warmth and desire to be the man God called him to be. I came to care for the folks of Rocky Falls and began to cheer them on as they faced an unrelenting enemy. Then Diann Mills began to layer a bit of espionage amid the plot...who was who? Who was really on whose side? Got a bit tense there for a while!!

And tension does build exponentially as the story moves toward its conclusion! All in all this was a very good story. The ending chapter was more like an epilogue, and was a rather abrupt look forward, but it was satisfying nonetheless. I just wanted more, I guess. If you like historical romance with a strong underpinning of suspense, then A Woman Called Sage has your name written on it! It's a good read!
