The Jewel of His Heart by Maggie Brendan - REVIEWED

Juliana Brady is a young woman left alone in a mining town in Montana in the early 1800’s. Her circumstances weren’t all that unusual for that time period, however the character created by Maggie Brendan shows an extraordinary amount of courage and ingenuity and finds a job she enjoys and a place to live that introduces her to a family that grows to love her as one of their own. What Juliana lacks is faith, and that journey proves to be a rather arduous one for a woman who has managed to accomplish so much on her own.

Josh McBride is a man who has had his heart damaged by both his father and a woman. Josh is determined to break away from his father’s plans for his life and be his own man. However, after having his heart broken by a woman he cared deeply about, he isn’t too interested in rushing into a new romance. Establishing a profitable life as a shepherd near a Montana mining town proves to be quite the challenge, especially after he meets Juliana.

The Jewel of His Heart is not a complicated story although it does have a few unexpected twists to the plot. In the spiritual sense, this is a story of understanding God’s heart toward us as weak, broken sinners – considering Him as our father even when we’ve not enjoyed a good relationship with our earthly Father. Josh nor Juliana know what it’s like to have a strong relationship with their earthly father, but God designs the events of their lives to show them that He is a Father who can be trusted completely.

If you enjoy historical romance, you will enjoy Maggie Brendan’s story, The Jewel of His Heart. This is actually the second book in the Heart of the West series, and No Place for a Lady was the debut novel.
