Based upon Ephesians 5:33 and extensive biblical and psychological research, Dr. Emerson Eggerichs reveals the power of unconditional love and unconditional respect and how husbands and wives can reap the benefits of marriage that God intended.
MY THOUGHTS:
Love and Respect is a well-written, scripture-based approach to marital communication. The communication between a man and woman lies at the heart of marriage, and oftentimes the differences seem insurmountable. However, Dr. Eggerichs points out that most of the time these differences can be understood and overcome with a little patience and perseverance. This book outlines these basic differences and needs that exist in a marriage relationship and offers practical advice to make positive changes within your marriage whether you’re newlywed, or celebrating several years together.
This book has been endorsed by Focus on the Family, and I feel that the testimonies and the stories shared within the context of the book are valid endorsement that biblical principles make all the difference in the world when applied to a marriage. I dare say most of us come into marriage with vastly skewed ideas and expectations about what marital happiness is supposed to look like. Dr. Eggerichs’ book goes a long way to dispel those myths and speaks plainly to everyday struggles that face today’s marriages. This book offers both hope and practical solutions for better marriages.
On a personal note, I think I have a lot to learn even after twenty years of marriage. I will be going back through certain areas of this book for closer study and with prayerful application, I too hope to see areas of my own marriage transformed and strengthened. This would make a great gift for newlyweds or a great anniversary gift for couples whose hearts are seeking God’s direction in their lives. Marriage isn’t always an easy relationship, but it is a gift of God and one to be cherished and worked on with loving patience for a lifetime.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
THis is a very powerful, amazing book that changes lives if you let. I remember reading this book and sobbing. I really didn't get what Love and Respect meant at all in the context of marriage. I asked God to help me understand this on a whole new level in my life. I'm still working on this and will be until Jesus returns.
